About Me

Mila Kedar

Hi, I'm Mila.

I'm an expat psychologist providing therapy for adults (18+) in my private practice in Haarlem, the Netherlands, and online. I provide therapy in English, Hebrew and Russian.

I have over a decade of clinical experience in individual and group psychotherapy, in both private practice and public mental health services. I deeply believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship to ease pain and suffering and create the possibility for change. This belief has continued to grow and deepen through my work with clients over the years.

I grew up in Israel after moving there from Kyiv, Ukraine as a child. In Israel I was trained as a clinical psychologist. A few years ago I made another big move and relocated to the Netherlands. Since I know from personal experience what it's like to build a home in a new country, I have a special interest in working with people who have experienced immigration or relocation, and with the unique challenges and opportunities that come with it.

My approach

To me, therapy is first and foremost a safe, warm, and accepting relationship, grounded in deep and non-judgmental listening. In my experience, such a relationship allows us to make space for all parts of our experience, including those we usually work hard to keep hidden from others, or even from ourselves. Within such a space, it becomes possible to feel more understood and less alone, navigate difficulties and challenges more effectively, and create meaningful change.

My approach is integrative. The main framework that guides my work is psychodynamic, focusing on the unconscious processes that shape the way we experience ourselves, others, and the world around us. I also draw on contemporary cognitive-behavioral approaches, particularly ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), which emphasize developing awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and reactions, while learning to make space for difficult experiences rather than struggling against them, avoiding them, or being guided by them.

In my experience, becoming aware of our patterns and understanding where they come from can help us relate to ourselves with greater kindness, build more supportive relationships with ourselves and others, become less driven by automatic reactions, and gently expand our ways of coping, as well as our sense of choice and agency in the world.

I see every therapeutic process as unique. I aim to meet each person where they are, respecting their individual pace, needs, and circumstances, and shaping the therapeutic process accordingly.
